Privacy Policy for MACHINA: Know Your Ride

Last updated: August 31, 2026

MACHINA: Know Your Ride (“MACHINA”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) is a motorcycle maintenance tracking app published by Kim Roland Berame. This policy explains what data the app handles and how.

We designed MACHINA to be offline-first. Your data stays on your device.

See also our Terms of Service.

Summary

Data You Create

All content you enter — motorcycles, service logs, parts, mileage, odometer readings, fuel logs, maintenance schedules, notification preferences, and any motorcycle photo you add — is stored locally on your device in an on-device database. We have no servers that receive, store, or process this data. We cannot see it.

If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it. Back up anything you want to keep before uninstalling (see Exports and Backups below).

Exports and Backups

MACHINA can produce two kinds of file from your data. Both are generated entirely on your device, written to the app’s own temporary storage, and then handed to your operating system’s share sheet so you can choose where they go. We do not upload them, receive them, or have any way to read them.

Service history PDF

The exported PDF contains what the app shows on screen: your motorcycle’s make, model, engine size, odometer, its photo if you added one, your service entries (dates, parts, notes, costs, shop names), and your fuel and cost figures. It is a document generated from data you entered — it is not a certified or verified service record.

Full data backup (JSON)

The backup is a single JSON file containing everything in your on-device database: motorcycles, service logs, log items, custom parts, part overrides and overdue anchors, fuel logs, odometer logs, your currency setting, and every motorcycle photo embedded in the file. Purchase/entitlement status is deliberately excluded.

Important: the backup file is not encrypted and not password-protected. Once it leaves the app it is an ordinary file. Treat it as sensitive as the records inside it, and store it somewhere you control.

Where your files go

Neither iOS nor Android tells the app where a shared file was saved. MACHINA therefore cannot confirm, track, or retrieve it — it only asks you whether you saved it, so it can show a “last backed up” date. Once a file reaches another app or service (Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Mail, a messaging app), that destination’s own privacy policy and terms govern it, not ours.

Restoring a backup

To restore, MACHINA opens your system file picker and reads only the single file you choose. It does not browse, scan, or index your storage, and it needs no standing file-access permission. Restoring replaces the data currently in the app.

Purchases and entitlement checks

MACHINA currently sells nothing. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no paywall. No payment of any kind passes through us or through any third party.

The app ships with the RevenueCat purchase-checking SDK as groundwork for paid features we may introduce later, but it is switched off: it is never started, contacts no servers, and sends nothing about you or your device anywhere. Nothing about purchases leaves your phone in this version.

If we do introduce paid features, they will be sold and billed by Apple through the App Store — we would never see or handle your payment details, card number, or billing address. Checking what you are entitled to would then involve RevenueCat receiving an anonymous, randomly generated ID and basic technical details about your device, never your name, email, or maintenance data. We will update this policy before that happens. RevenueCat’s own privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

Notifications

MACHINA schedules local notifications on your device to remind you about upcoming or overdue maintenance. These are generated and delivered entirely on-device. We do not operate a push-notification server, and we do not collect a push token or any device identifier for notifications. You can disable notifications at any time in your device’s system settings.

Third-Party Services

MACHINA is built with the Expo platform. To deliver app updates and ensure stability, the following Expo services may automatically collect limited technical and diagnostic information:

This information is handled under Expo’s privacy policy: https://expo.dev/privacy

In addition:

We do not control and are not responsible for these services’ data practices. We do not receive personal data from them.

Photos

You can optionally add a photo to a motorcycle. To let you choose one, MACHINA requests access to your photo library. Depending on the access you grant:

In all cases, reading your library is done only to display photos for you to pick. We do not read photo location/EXIF metadata. The photo you select is copied into the app’s local on-device storage and shown in the app. It is never uploaded, transmitted, or shared — it stays on your device and is deleted when you remove the photo or uninstall the app.

A motorcycle photo is included in a service history PDF and embedded in a data backup, because both are copies of your own records. Those files go only where you send them (see Exports and Backups).

Saving share cards

MACHINA can generate shareable image cards from your stats. If you choose to save one, the app requests permission to add photos to your library and writes the image there. The card is created on your device; we never receive or transmit it.

Sharing

You can share a generated card, a service history PDF, a data backup, or your stats using the standard iOS share sheet. What you share, and with whom, is entirely your choice and handled by iOS — MACHINA does not receive, store, or route shared content, and there is no MACHINA server involved.

Permissions

The app may request these device permissions:

Restoring a backup uses your system’s file picker. This grants the app access to the one file you pick, for that action only — no standing permission to your files is requested or kept.

You may grant or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings.

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, advertising identifier, or usage analytics. Photos you add to a motorcycle stay on your device and are never collected or transmitted (see Photos above). Files you export stay yours (see Exports and Backups above). The app assigns you no identifier of any kind.

MACHINA reads your device’s language and region setting on-device only, to choose a sensible default currency for displaying maintenance costs. This setting is never collected or transmitted, and you can override the currency in the app.

Children’s Privacy

MACHINA is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
